U-Pick Yellow and Pole Beans

Come and Get 'Em!

Beautiful fields of Pesticide-free Pole Beans and Yellow Wax Beans

To keep the bean plants healthy, we have one request:

Picking needs to take place between 10AM - 6PM.
Cooler, damp morning temperatures are great for growing conditions,
but not for harvesting.

If beans are harvested in the morning's coolness,
or
if the plants are damp when picked,
it opens them up to a "rust colored" fungus.
Once started, it spreads like wild-fire throughout the fields.

While the fungus does not damage the "eating quality" of the bean,
it turns the plant and seed pods a rust color,
making them unappetizing to look at.

Because our fields are chemical-free we harvest under optimal conditions.

That is why we have strict harvesting hours.
By 10AM, the plants are dry, and not as susceptible to the rust fungus.

Thank you for understanding.

Quotes for this week:

It wasn't the reward that mattered or the recognition
you might harvest. It was your depth of commitment,
your quality of service, the product of your devotion --
these were the things that counted in life. When you
gave purely, the honor in giving,
and that
was honor enough.
--Captain Scott O'Grady

The fact is that in order to do any thing in this
world worth doing, we must not stand shivering
on the bank thinking of the cold and the danger,
but jump in and scramble through
as well as we can.
